Teichert Horses was started with a solid foundation of broodmares and a childhood dream. Rodney Teichert has a passion for horses, producing quality rope horses that succeed in the arena, perform on a ranch and are easy for anyone to get along with. Quoting his father-in-law, Gib Yardley, “A good horse eats as much as a bad horse, so you might as well have a good one.”

Knowing good horses come from good mares, Rodney built the program’s elite broodmare herd by focusing on sound minds, eye appeal and athleticism. Good friends and connections allowed him to continue to advance the breeding program.

“A good friend, Richard Hutchings in Fallon, Nevada, had an outstanding band of broodmares he’d put together after years of purchasing Pitzer Ranch’s best and highest-selling fillies,” Teichert noted. “Richard was getting out of the business and offered me the chance of a lifetime to add these mares to accelerate Teichert Horses.”

The program added two stallions to the lineup after securing a herd of broodmares. The first stallion—Starlight Oak Hero—was born and raised by the family in 2015. Then in 2021, Teichert Horses and Toby Hoffman acquired Riata Buckle stallion, MP Jet To The Sun, a 2004 palomino by Sun Frost out of Miss Meter Jet.
