A Streak Of Fling is the No. 1 living sire of barrel horses, but 2022 marked a banner year for “Streaker” in the team roping, too.
A Streak Of Fling was the No. 4 producing sire out of the 155 stallions at the inaugural Riata Buckle, with Ivy Hurst and Streak Of Investment winning $44,000 for the #10.5 All Ages event. NFR header Bubba Buckaloo rodeoed on a son of A Streak Of Fling, as did Garrett Tonozzi and Cody Snow.
Meanwhile, Streakin Sun Dew won his second Head Horse of the BFI title, some eight years after winning his first. And Oz Ona Hot Streak and Ross Ashford won the first-ever Calgary Stampede team roping title—this win on the heel side.
“I’m not surprised, because this is why Streaker was bought to begin with,” owner Lisa Fulton said. “My late husband, Brian, was a bull dogger, calf roper and team roper, and that’s what we wanted to breed for. That pretty bay roan took off in the eyes of the barrel racers, and the reality is, the team ropers are now starting to pay attention because it pays them to. He’s long been successful, and now the horses are coming to the forefront. I wasn’t sure how we’d stack up against programs set for rope horses—specifically at the Riata Buckle—but he did wonderful.”
A Streak Of Fling’s offspring are eligible for the Riata Buckle and Royal Crown incentives and have already racked up $1.7 million in roping earnings, contributing to the $7.3 million they’ve won overall.
