A National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) earner of $351,062, the 2001 sorrel stallion Woody Be Tuff has sired $9 million in earners across cutting, cow horse, reining, roping and barrel racing.
Woody Be Tuff is not only a proven performer and leading sire of Western performance horses, but his genetics offer the ultimate outcross on popular maternal bloodlines. In fact, in 2022, Woody Be Tuff became the No. 1 outcross on Metallic Cat mares, with the get averaging $40,403 a piece, continuing Woody Be Tuff’s legacy as the ultimate outcross.

“He’s 15 hands,” Melanie Smith, owner of Solo Select, said. “We think he’ll be a great cross on a lot of the running-bred mares to go to the cow horse or the barrel racing arena. He’s a total outcross on the Metallic Cat mares—the Peptoboonsmal, High Brow Cat and Dual Rey daughters. There is almost nothing you can’t breed to him.”
Woody Be Tuff has bred the likes of AQHA/PRCA Horses of the Year Ima Fresno Dee (Annie) owned by Cody Snow and DT Sugar Chex Whiz (owned by Dixon Flowers Performance Horses). Plus, the Relentless Remuda bred their standout mares Relentless Glory and Big Time Movie Star to the stud for 2023 foals as well.
Woody Be Tuff not only passes on desirable conformational traits, but his offspring have gained a reputation for the solid mentality necessary to excel in a variety of disciplines. He is one of 11 stallions to have sired an NCHA Open Futurity Champion (2012 CR Tuff Hearted Cat 1-2 split) and a National Reined Cow Horse Association Open Futurity Champion in Zak 34 (2021).
Incentive eligibilities include Royal Crown, Riata Buckle and Ruby Buckle.
