Billie Jack Saebens and Una Furiosa added another major title to their growing list on October 2, winning the clean-slate short round of the inaugural Solo Select Incentive Futurity Heading with a 311.52 on four head to earn $100,000.

Saebens also picked up another $2,500 for a 311.07 in Round 1, bringing the mare’s lifetime earnings to $151,790.

Owned by Southern Ranches’ Shane Boston and Jessica Boston, Una Furiosa (by Bobby Starlight out of Playin For Fury by Furyofthewind) has proven to be one of the most dominant futurity heading horses in the game in 2025. This $102,500 weekend payout comes on top of titles from the ARHFA Redbud Spectacular and TX Best earlier this year.

“I’ll be honest with the format, obviously clean slate, I wasn’t trying to win any rounds,” Saebens, a two-time NFR heeler and ARHFA World Champ, said. “I was just trying to get to the short round. The first steer I was just training on her, trying to keep her cool. And then we won the round. That kind of screwed up my plan.”

Despite being early out in Round 1 and sitting quietly through three steers, Una Furiosa stayed cool and focused, even when the short round environment got loud.

“She’s always 100% in the box,” Saebens said. “The short round was probably the most nervous she’s been. The announcer was loud, and the steer was fighting the chute. I finally just had to go even though he wasn’t perfect. I was a little late, but the cow made me be aggressive, and she just did what she does.”

This was the first year of the Solo Select Incentive Futurity, a format that required the horse’s rider or owner to have purchased a breeding to a Solo Select stallion to be eligible to enter. The structure is designed to incentivize investment in breeding while raising the stakes for top competitors.

Saebens credited the team around Una Furiosa for the win, from breeder Larry Rice to colt starter Ty Benson and longtime friend and client Shane Boston. He also gave a nod to Brock Hanson, who heeled for him in the futurity.

“It’s cool,” Saebens said. “With great horses, it takes a team. And these people—Shane and Jessica especially—have put a lot into the industry, not just the show side. To get a little bit back for them is pretty special.”

Looking ahead, Saebens plans to give the 4-year-old mare a well-earned break.

“I’ll probably give her a week or 10 days off,” Saebens said. “Maybe just ride her out in the pasture a little. It sounds crazy to say, but the training feels done. She’s just perfect every time.”
