In a sport where everything pulls left, there are plenty of opinions on whether a heel horse should pick up the right lead at any point in the run. In this video lesson, brought to you by Cactus Ropes, Miles Baker shares his view on whether they should ever pick up the right lead, how to prevent them from changing leads at the wrong time, and whether it matters in the long run.
“I don’t want to pick on them, and I don’t want them doing stuff that’s not natural for them; every horse has a way of doing things that is natural for them. So, there are gray areas on that topic for sure — on the right lead/left lead deal — but ultimately, you can’t have your horse coming through the turn in his right lead.”
