All-Ages Heading: Yes Im Sassy and Colby Lovell
Colby Lovell rode Yes Im Sassy by by Mr Sassy Frenchman out of Full Irish Whiskey by Paddys Irish Whiskey to a score of 636.18 on four head with the help of Dakota Kirchenschlager on the back side to a payout of $4,500 to owner Neal and Jody Wanless. All-Ages Heeling: Fine Vintage Cash and Andy Holcomb
California’s Andy Holcomb won $11,600 for his morning’s work on Fine Vintage Cash by One Fine Vintage out of Miss Kitty Cash by Nu Cash, winning three of the four rounds outright and winning second in the other round. Their score of 672.40 bested the second-place team of Joseph Harrison and Duals Magic Potion by 26.51 points. Fine Vintage Cash is owned by Monty and Chris Avery and was bred by Robertson Ranches. 4-&-Under Heading: DCC Fools Gold and Tate Kirchenschlager
Tate Kirchenschlager piloted Dasco Cattle Co.’s DCC Fools Gold to the 4-&-Under Royal Crown Heading title with a score of 672.40 on four head, worth $7,963 for the average. Dasco Cattle Co. also won $978 for owning the sire—Metallic Echo—and another $978 as the breeder and mare owner of the horse’s dam, DCC Smooth Sugar by CJ Goldrush. 4-&-Under Heeling: Pride And Joy and Trevor Brazile
The 2019 stallion Pride And Joyy and Trevor Brazile won the 4-&-Under Heeling at the Royal Crown in Rock Springs, roping four steers for an aggregate score of 652.68, worth $7,963. They picked up another $978 for breeder Ty Smith and the same for the owners of the horse’s sire, Stevie Rey Von. Out of the mare Fun N Fancy Free by Peptoboonsmal, Pride And Joyy won Round 2 as well for another $2,000 with Miles Baker heading.
Intermediate Heading: Celtic Tuff and Mike Kunzler
The 2018 gelding Celtic Tuff by Woody Be Tuff out of Sucha SmartLookn Cat by High Brow Cat won the Royal Crown’s Intermediate Heading Aug. 17, 2023, winning $8,626 for the aggregate with a score of 643.34. That earned breeders the Center Ranch $1,406 and Woody Be Tuff’s owners another $1,406 check. Owned by Briena Wells, the horse picked up the go-round win in Round 3 for another $2,400, and was third for $1,200 in Round 2.
Intermediate Heeling: Starlight Oak 017 and Tyler Schaffner
Tyler Schaffner rode his Royal Crown stallion Starlight Oak 017 by Starlights Gypsy out of Lenas Oakling by Docs Oak to a score of 588.82 on four head, worth $9,200 for the owners Inderman Schaffner LLC, plus $1,480 for breeder JoAnn Parker and $1,480 for the owners of Starlights Gypsy. He also picked up another $4,500 in go-round money across three rounds.
6-&-Under Heading: Carters Won Time Out and Rhen Richard
A&C Racing and Roping’s Carters Won Time Out and Rhen Richard teamed up at the 2023 Royal Crown in Rock Springs to rope four steers with an aggregate score of 618.09 to win $13,271. Breeders at the Flag Ranch and stallion owners of One Time Honor got $1,196 a piece for the day, while A&C Racing and Roping picked up another $2,250 for second in Round 2 and another $750 for fourth in Round 3.
6-&-Under Heeling: Heavenly Catt and Jeremy Buhler
Jeremy Buhler brought his string of young horses and won first and second at the Royal Crown 6-&-Under Heeling Futurity Aug. 17, 2023—getting the title on Heavenly Catt and placing second on Hot Smokepack, both horses he and his fiancé own. By Catty Rey out of Heavenly Reys by Dual Rey, the 2017 gelding Heavenly Catt won $15,410 for the average win, plus another $3,200 for first in Round 2 and $1,600 for third in Round 1. He also won his breeder Nachos Quarter Horses $1,610 and the owners of Catty Rey the same amount. Hot Smokepack—by Hes Hot N Chexy out of RS Hollywood Chex by RS Olenas Playboy won $13,400 for the average win, $1,400 for the breeder Doug Wilkinson and $1,400 for the owners of Hes Hot N Chexy. He also won Round 1 for another $3,200.
