Team ropers favorite headstalls.

Headstall: ZT Leather

Horse: Big Poppa, 19-year-old

Why? I’m just a plain guy so I like the plain roughout. All of my tack is roughout. I try to ride a lot of browband headstalls because I have friends that pull tricks on me.

Headstall: TH Custom Leather Works

Horse: Smurf, 14-year-old

Why? The browband kind of evens things out in my books. You’ll see some headstalls that have buckles on both sides and one strap will be lower than the other. I got the buckles from Tres Rios put on there. I’m kind of peculiar about stuff like that—I like things to be even. The browband is custom, too, because I got to put Smurf’s name on it. I don’t plan on Smurf going anywhere. Everyone will know it’s Smurf because of his headstall.

Headstall: ZT Leather

Horse: Dude, 10-year-old

Why? I think my brand looks good on there. It’s good, quality leather. I can tell he put in a lot of time and it fits my horse good. It has comfort in it. I think the split ear piece looks cleaner.

Headstall: Cowperson Tack

Horse: Prowler, 17-year-old

Why? I’ve been really good friends with the owner since I was a little kid. He makes really good gear. He uses good, quality leather and his product lasts forever. I like the buckles that are on my headstall, too. He makes them really well, and it’s good to look at, too.

Chris Francis

Headstall: Double J

Horse: Dude, 11-year-old.

Why? I like a headstall that ties with leather ties and doesn’t use Chicago screws. I usually just use a split earpiece.
